In the past 'new' VINs have been seen a lot closer to the new year. Seems awful early. Want to give the first part of the VIN so we can confirm? The 'personal' part is the last six digits.

Not to stir the pot further, but the Model S LR that I’m taking delivery of on 8 November is listed by Tesla themselves as a 2020 model on the invoice.

They always have done years on the VIN, as was stated. What was meant is that they never advertised ‘here’s the new 2020 Model 3 with blah blah new features’. There aren’t model years as the other manufactures have them but they have them only because they legally have to have them (physically) for sales and insurance purposes.
