Aluminium doors, who knew?

Wow. Anything more than a minor fender bender is going to be catastrophic. Once you bend a pillar or frame element she's toast unless it can be unbonded and replaced back to undisturbed or taken out and straightened and annealed and put back.
Uhh...yup! The industry PR raves about the weight-saving advantages of aluminum, but totally ignores the cost of repair, or rather, the inability to repair and the necessity to replace body parts after damage.

Welcome to the world of capitalism!

We have a 2018 Accord and there is aluminum all over it. Yes repairs will be expensive. Doesn’t matter as that car will be gone in a week. Replaced by a Subaru Outback.

My previous car was a 2015 Accord. Got into a love tap with an 18 wheeler that mildly dinked up the left rear fender. Took it to an old school body shop who repaired it for just over $2k.

As the owner of the body shop said, “Steel we can repair. Aluminum we have to replace. Once you stretch aluminum you can’t beat it back into shape like you can steel.”
