Any cheaper 3rd party CHAdeMO adapters?

The Tesla CHAdeMO adaptor is expensive, $450: CHAdeMO Adapter

Why so expensive? Is this a tricky thing to build?
Are there any cheaper 3rd party adapters available? I searched but didn't find anything.

There’s probable $250 or more worth of connectors in that adapter (the CHAdeMO inlet and the Tesla plug), add in some heavy duty copper and you’re most of the way there. As a comparison, EVTV Motor Verks Store: 1 Yazaki CHAdeMO DC Inlet, Battery Chargers, chademoinlet is a CHAdeMO inlet port for $900, just the port, no conversion electronics. While I would want it to be lower cost, I’m fine with the price when comparing to other products.

And no, I haven’t seen any 3rd party products.

It's not a good idea to buy 3rd party for things like this. You are talking about high voltage here. Buy something cheaply made from some kind of other company and you can burn your house and/or car down, or injure yourself. You probably heard about accidents with 3rd party phone chargers. And no, nobody else makes CHADEMO adapters for tesla.

I'm praying that we will see CSS adapter in USA soon enough.

Worth every penny of $450 paid. P3D’s ridiculous consumption on this trip made it so we had to bailout to a EA Chademo (Tesla SC was a 15mi detour both ways, pass)
