I think your right. although I didn't drive in the rain or through a puddle,I did drive on a wet road, for a couple miles. With as little as it has rained in SoCal, possibly the tires kicked up enough water into the covered undercarriage, for it to run out. Could also possibly be rotor metal dust that is also accumulated up there and came out as rust and particles. Hopefully it's that and not something else rusting in there.
