Now that the price dropped 30%+ it's economical for me to add more panels. I would keep the same inverter (mine doesn't clip), gets to about 5.5kw max on 7.1kw inverter. It's my understanding that oversizing the system is the most economical route to expansion. What's the best way to go about this? I feel like I could even DIY it since all the conduit is in place. Just add some more next to existing panels? Or is this something tesla would agree to do for a price.

The only company that might consider expanding your current system would be the company that installed it. If that is tesla, you can ask them. In general, however, I think people normally end up with 2 systems. Maybe your DIY skills on such a thing are top notch so you could do it, but its not something the average homeowner does DIY.

Is 4kW too much to add? You can always request Tesla do a 4kW install in addition to your current system. That would be $8K pre-tax credit.
