Are Service Wait Times Always Awful?

We've had our M3 AWD since Nov 30th. Car's really nice and fun, though my wife is becoming very frustrated the last couple weeks as she often gets in and the car won't go into gear. Mostly the screen tells her to get out of the car and get back in, which doesn't help. A few reboots (2 button and brake pedal & 2 button) will finally get it going. Reading other threads, it might be a Bluetooth issue.

Called Service in the afternoon - waited an hour on hold and no one picked up.

Tried to enter a service request on the web - web form is broken, gave a Form failure upon send.

Used phone app last night (3/19) - Appointment for April 10th in Torrance, CA. 3 WEEKS !!

Clicked on phone app choice to reschedule (she couldn't remember exactly what she clicked on) - the blank screen displayed a spinner for 2 hours before I decided to cancel out.

Reading through this forum seems to indicate that Tesla service is mediocre at best and "ludicrous" more often than not. My wife said last night that she can no longer recommend a M3 as who wants a car that can't be serviced in a reasonable time frame. Her Infiniti sport coupe never took more than 2 days, typically same day.

Why is Tesla focused on becoming the new 1960's British Sports Cars? (Awesome when they run, but God help you if they don't.)

3 Weeks is awesome! Try Buena Park Service Center.. 7 weeks. May 8th. Although the thing about Buena Park SC is that the email they listed on the appointment email... always bounce back if you email them. It has been that way since 2017. You need to call if you need to change appointment. One time I have to cancel an appointment, have to wait about 25 min on hold just to cancel.

Post-purchase support is rather miserable with Tesla. I've had a sour experience with the Tesla service phone option too. It feels like it gets routed through some generic corporate switchboard (even though it may be a "local" number), and if you get lucky, maybe it routes you to the local service center after listening to all of the pre-recorded messages ("How to use your Tesla", "Tips and tricks for your Tesla"). Every time I've gone into the local SC in person, there are always service advisors seemingly available to pick up a phone.

I had a defective MCU on my Model 3 recently, and I initially used the "Get Help" email option from the My Account site. It took them 8 days to reply. Somewhere in between, I gave up waiting and just contacted my original delivery specialist, who got me in contact with the local service manager. They took my car in for the MCU replacement, and I had it back in my hands before someone in "Tesla Support" based out of Utah was able to reply to my original "Get Help" email.

It's dependent on your service center. North County San Diego has a newer (5-6 months) temporary service center in Oceanside and the wait is minimal. Appointments are available within 3 business days, unlike the original San Diego location, which is about 3 weeks. Last time I took my car to San Diego, it took 30 minutes just to check-in behind the line of cars waiting. I've never been able to get on the phone with someone at San Diego right away. Oceanside is still slow enough that the receptionist is able to pick up the phone right away almost every time from what I witnessed while I was waiting for work on my car there the other day. It's farther for me, but worth the drive.

I've had nothing but great experiences with Tesla Service (Northern California) in the four years I've had the car. Always been able to schedule a service within a few days (mostly Rocklin). Always had a loaner. Always excellent service.

Also, my last service was by their mobile van. Fantastic! They came to my house and fixed everything (airbag, steering bolts, door handle and drain plugs). Absolutely the best service experience I've ever had.

As others have said, I don't think this is a problem with the car. Probably the phone. Try using the key card or get a fob (or a different phone).

Bumper became loose while driving up I5 and nearly tore off it’s definitely unsafe. Undercarriage scrapes the ground when just enough wind hits it. This is a known build issue. 8 day wait time in SF bay area this week. So my car will be out for two weeks no option to pick up a loaner sooner than your drop off - I was told by the service center to rent a car! After waiting over a year for my $56k m3 they can’t give me a loaner to fix their build problem wtf? I also had problems with the phone app requesting service - never got confirmation so thinking I had an appointment queued and actually had nothing.

Maybe I should drive to rocklin! I hope my bumper can stay on long enough

You might try scheduling a mobile appointment. They should be able to do this with a mobile tech. Schedule through the app.

Thanks - I wish. With the bumper issue - its something they definitely need to put up on a lift, the undercarriage attached to the bumper is detached and drags on the ground at speeds/winds above 55/60. The app actually has my appointment showing with a message that if mobile service is available they will contact me.... that's not going to happen.
