you're assuming that the "D" is the first tesla for everyone, some of the "D" owners are on their decond or third teslas

For us, distance between charges has been determined primarily by the location of superchargers along our route. Other than the possibility of skipping the first one after leaving home with a 100% charge, the chargers have been more than 100 miles apart, and we won't attempt more than 200 miles on a partial charge. If we to happen to get a full charge at lunch we're OK to go ~220 miles, depending on conditions.
