Best USB or microsd for v9 dashcam?

Since the dash cam feature writes 60, 1 minute files, deletes it all, and starts again, I was thinking a micro SD card might be a better option for the v9 dashcam.

I'm running a 128 GB Samsung Pro Endurance in a DR 900S with good results so I was thinking about getting a micro SD to USB adapter instead of a native flash drive.

What are you guys using?

I’ve been using

SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.0 Flash Drive

for music and bought another in preparation for dash cam feature. It’s already formatted FAT32 and is nearly flush when inserted ... no risk of snapping off in the port.

Also bought this for the lighter port for my phone

Now just need V9! ;)

So I have 2 of these flash drives: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruzer-Low-Profile-Drive-SDCZ33-064G-B35/dp/B00FJRS6QY

I use one for music and it works great. I tried using the other for the dashcam and the car just wouldn't recognize it. I put a few music files on it, worked perfectly. So there's something screwy with that particular drive + the v9 dashcam. I tried a 128 Blackvue micro SD and the adapter that came with the camera, but that was also acting weird, but I think it might be the cheap, plastic adapter or the SD card because it was also acting up in the DR900S camera.

I'm currently using a 4 GB Transcend flash drive from about 10 years ago and so far so good. Since the camera functionality is so limited right now, I figured such a small drive should be fine.

I really like the flush fit car charger design, but I have a Pixel 2 and a mobile hotspot that use USB-c / power delivery for optimal charging so I'm eyeing the Belkin or Anker PD chargers at the moment.

why do u use that Aukey car charger instead of the one on the car?
what's the diff between the one you listed and the one below?

I am using one usb for music and a second one for Dashcam once I get V9. The Aukey and most other cigarette lighter adapters are higher power than the USB ports in the vehicle (2.4Amps). From the link you provided, I don’t think that there is any difference from mine other than color. I’ll also end up using the 2nd Aukey usb port for the Echo Auto when it arrives

I also use a Proclip mount for my iPhone to keep everything organized and accessible.

my AP1 MS doesn't support the new v9 dashcam feature (besides, I have a Blackvue 2ch dashcam already), but just gonna throw this out there for consideration...

FYI since dashcams are continuously writing and rewriting to the memory card, for long term reliability it's generally recommended to get a card which uses "MLC" type NAND flash memory cells (not the cheaper TLC variety). Transcend High Endurance cards are often recommended for dashcams; there are other brands of MLC-type cards too - you could use one with a USB-to-microSD adapter. I currently have a 64GB Transcend High Endurance card in my Blackvue; prior to that I used a 128GB Lexar 633x card (TLC-type) but it failed after about 20months of use. Note the Blackvue might be writing to the card more frequently with parking mode enabled, so YMMV using the v9 dashcam which doesn't have that.

The low profile Sandisk Ultra Fit USB drive was mentioned upthread and it's great because it doesn't stick way out of the USB slot (I use one for USB music in my MS). However AFAIK that is a TLC device - that may not matter to you since they're so cheap these days you can just replace it if it fails - although hopefully the USB drive doesn't die at an inopportune time in the middle of recording an incident... might also be a consideration whether you partition 1 device to hold both music and dashcam.

anyhow just FYI. enjoy the new v9 dashcam

Agreed on the ultra fit USB. IMHO, the amount of writes + replacement cost + reduced risk of snapping a protruding larger thumbdrive make the Sandisk (or any other low profile thumb drive) the best option for this use case.

So I plugged the Sandisk into my Pixel 2 using the USB-A to C adapter and it prompted me to format it. It was already in FAT32 using the HP USB format tool, but I had the phone do it again. And for whatever reason, it is now working for the dashcam.

I've been looking at a lot of threads on this topic (splitters, hubs, partitions, etc.) and I haven't seen this question asked yet...

Anker has this portable card reader that has two slots (one microSD and one regular SD) and claims to be able to do simultaneous read/write for both slots. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Portab...=gateway&sprefix=anker+memory+,aps,191&sr=8-3

I guess my question is, presumably could I just plug this card reader into one of the front USB ports, then insert a microSD card (for the dashcam) and insert a regular SD card (for music)? This sounds like it might work if Anker claims that the reader can support simultaneous read/write. And if it works, it's a cleaner solution that eliminates the need for splitters, hubs, etc. Has anyone tried this? Or have any general thoughts on this option?
