they are Illegal but i see lots of them.. i was at my buddies shop and a Tesla model 3 showed up with a black and white carbon fiber one.. looked pretty cool..

Actually thats been changing this year they do care its just such a new issue and these plates have been out for about a year. DMV has sent out a internal memo to CA DMV/AAA offices with a min Fine starting at $200 they are partnering with CHP on illegal's wraps etc.

only problem with that is the reflecting portion lol but still yea the ticket isnt worth it.

It's a choice. Painting or wrapping just gives the CHP a reason to pull you over, similar to no front plate. Depending on where you are in the state these items matter. Los Angles parking meter readers will ticket you for no front plate, and bored CHP officers on the 395 will pull you over for painted plates. We all decide on the level of lawlessness we want to adhere to. Some put both plates on with the standard plate holders and fly the freeways at 90. Some put the EV stickers on and some don't. You take your chances where you feel lucky.
