Hello everyone. I'm from Poland and I'm looking for help with my Tesla Model 3. I bought a post-accident Tesla Model 3 a fortnight ago. The car was hit in the rear wheel and the charging port. All systems appear to be in working order. The main problem is with the charging. The on-board computer has blocked charging and shows the message ‘Unable to charge. service needed". The service mode shows the error BMS_a091_SW_ChargePort_MIA. The ECU (responsible for controlling the charger) has a damaged housing but the IC itself is whole and not damaged. The replacement charging port flap is also unresponsive. The charge port was not damaged during the impact. The high-voltage battery is discharged.

Do any of you know how to remove such a fault? What is the cause? Do you need Tesla software to get rid of this error?

Please help, in Poland electromobility is basically non-existent and there are no workshops that can help me.

MIA likely stands for "Missing in Action", and suggests that comms to either the charge port or the charge port ECU is failing. Just because the ECU board and chips are not visibly damaged doesn't mean that there wasn't a short or enough physical shock to damage it or the charge port.

First thing I would do is check all the wiring connections, looking for a burned or broken wires or connections. Next step would be to check for power at the ECU. You may have to replace one or both.
