Body dents repair options

I had an unfortunate encounter with a shade sail that snapped in a windstorm, so the metal D-ring hammered my car for over an hour, making dozens of tiny dents and breaking the roof glass. It looks like hail damage.
The body shop suggests replacing the trunk and quarter panel, which is a major operation because it has to be cut out and welded.
I’ve never dealt with body damage like this before. Would PDR produce a better result? It sounds like it would be faster. I suppose cost isn’t really a factor because insurance covers it either way. I expect any insurance claim may have an effect on next year’s premium. What I don’t know is, does the $$ amount of the claim matter in that calculation?

Wow, that's a lot of dings. I know that quarter panel is one of the harder spots for PDR guys because that's where all the high voltage wiring is, but it can be done. I'd see if you have any hail damage PDR specialists in your area. Good luck with your repair.

How deep are the dents?

Sounds 100% like the body shop is slow and would enjoy that repair bill.

Have you turned it into insurance? What did their adjuster say?

Skim coat it with some dolphin and respray. No one will ever know. Tesla regularly has delivery (small) dents and this is the typical resolution for them.

NICE WORK on the dents! All joking aside, I have had the unfortunate experience of dropping a large aluminum ladder on my Porsche 996TT...UGH! Several quotes of replacing the entire drivers side rear quarter panel...several thousands of dollars. I figured what the hell and watched a ton of PDR videos. I managed to fix it myself over a few weeks and being very patient. (granted I have done PDR minor repairs in the past so it was something I figured I would give it a shot).

In your case, DEFINITELY find a reputable PDR shop! Even if some areas may have been "creased" you might just find they can fix it!

Also as @buckets0fun mentioned...get your insurance involved. As far as glass stuff find a reputable independent to give you a quote. It may end up that you have to go with Tesla but either way I believe it can be fixed!
