Brought home a used Model S and WHAT IS THIS CONNECTION? Driver side, comes out under the center console

2018 Model S, beautiful….. n\getting to know the subtle changes from my 2016. I found this connector and can’t figure out why / what this is for.

It is a "USB type B" connector, non Tesla, I believe, unless it was connecting the 2 USB type a connectors in the center console. Do they still work?

DerbyDave - yes, usb type b, I googled it and that is def. It. I have not plugged anything into it because I can’t find an adapter that would go usb b to anything useful (thumb drive, etc). Where it comes out does make me think maybe it does come from the back of the much, but I don’t know, maybe drop into the local computer store and ask what it a usb b to sod adapter????

USB-B is normally used for printer cables so if you ask for that you'll get USB-B on one side and USB-A on the other

My guess is that it's an early version of a government tracking device. It's obsolete now because they can now do it with the chip in the vaccines. Kids today don't believe me when I tell them that we used to be tracked by USB !

I did plug my laptop into that port and it detected a device ”Passport 9500ci”. That is a radar detector so I will trace cables and see how much of the system was left in the car…

It looks like you scored and have a car with a quality built in radar detector. That cable is for the updates.

You should remove the frunk and see where it’s mounted. Needs clear line of site so most likely down low in the bumper. Assuming it’s not behind the rear view mirror that is.
