point is, Tesla market cap was about $3b in 2011, so RenaultNissan could've bought out Tesla twice over for the money they spent on the LEAF/Renault ZE program. Carlos Ghosn had the vision for the future, but RenaultNissan's execution lacked, compared to Musk/Tesla.

Its only in the current quarter (or last quarter) that Tesla model 3 had great cumulative sales than the LEAF, the torch so to speak is handed to Tesla, but it was Renault Nissan who initially brought EV to the masses.
