Current state of affairs at Tesla's FSD team

This is SOP at aggressive/well run companies. Management will be constantly probing for efficiencies and that often requires changes in people.

At the same time, valuable employees are constantly being recruited by competitors and other employeers. They ususally will offer sweet deals for a successful employee to jump ship and bring their knowledge, training and talent over to their team.

Jack Welsh (sp?) at GE famously would let go the bottom 10% of their employees with a purge every year. Kept everyone on their toes to remain above that level. Since Jack left, GE has continously lost market share and their stock price has plummeted.

This policy is not common in the Automotive industry. Typical auto companies will maintain thousands on non performing employees. Unions are guilty of featherbedding, and fight to keep slackers on the payroll untill retirement.

See these click bait headlines all the time about Tesla loosing this employee or that employee, yet the company continous to out perform their competitors year after year.

If Elon lets you go, it is probably not because he thinks you are doing a great job :)

@Uncle Paul

In reality we don’t know how many people left by their own choice. If history is any judge, plenty of people have left Tesla’s AP team by choice. Already amongst these departures are some new Waymo etc hires.

For all we know, everyone may have left to new employers by choice and as a surprise to Tesla, instead of being sacked...

Reality is probably some mix in-between.
