That was already discussed.

1. A Camry with a hitch could have pulled him out.
2. Shame on that CT driver for going down there with standard tires.
In addition to your second point, given he was on all season tires, there was an obvious lack of experience driving off road here as well. He should have stopped trying to drive directly up the incline, turning either left or right and walking up the hill gradually - much the same as many roadways that navigate any mountainous incline - gradually take the incline - then a sharp turn in the opposite direction - and on up the incline. Chances are he would have been able to get up the hill using this approach - but they chose to call for a tow instead. Picture below for ease of reference - this is the type of route you take to attempt to navigate an incline when traction is limited.
