Delivery Issue rant

I am also having a similar bad delivery experience. I ordered a LR AWD red/white on Feb 12 (over 7 weeks ago!) and I live a few miles from the Fremont factory. So far my experience has been:
- On order, was told there were no inventory cars, and it should take about two weeks for to come off the factory line
- Then, was told over the phone and on my order page "by the end of February"
- On 3/19 received a txt about delivery on 3/21
- On 3/21 received a txt about delivery on 3/29
- Today received a call saying they don't have a car and moved delivery date to 4/12!

At this point the 4/12 seems more of an attempt to avoid me cancelling by pretending that it is coming soon rather than an actual delivery date as no one has any idea when it will actually be made. Tesla are lucky that there isn't another competing car to the Model 3 otherwise I would cancel my order and purchase a car from a company that isn't so incompetent.

The especially frustrating part is that we bought the M3 as a second car because we started to need a second car, and not having it is starting to get very inconvenient. If we had have been told when we ordered that we might not get it for 8+ weeks we would have just picked the black interior.

I know man...and I know ultimately all this is small beans. Just a bit disappointed. As I said, Im a big Tesla fan and know I'll love it once it comes in.

I actually don’t think it is small beans. It is this kind of thing that holds Tesla back. It is like the company needs a ‘customer experience’ head that pays attention to all the low cost ways they could assure loyal customers stay that way as they have a lot of silly things going on that cost more money if they did it right.

For instance why ship a car that is broken? Way cheaper and easier to fix it at the factory. Improving the quality inspection before shipping would save them money and result in more happy customers. Yes they would still have to touch up body damage that occurs in shipping.

Geez, thats a ton worse than I have it. I hope they get it figured out for you soon.

You're right. I mean in the whole big picture of life this is relatively small beans. In terms of purchasing the car, it isn't. I also agree that this is the type of thing that will continue to hold Tesla back in terms of ease of purchase. The whole no dealership thing is a great concept, but until they streamline the delivery process it will always be an issue that holds them back.

My wait is definitely not as long as yours (coming into 3 weeks now) but situation is similar. Blue AWD white interior. I’m beginning to strongly think Tesla had so many AWDs leftover from last year that they haven’t bothered to make any new yet in 2019. At least not in white interior. Meaning that until they get rid of that 2018 stock, we may out of luck if our config doesn’t match what they have already.

Just a quick update to this thread because it’s important to weigh the negatives with the positives. I took delivery of my LR AWD MSM today. The car was in beautiful condition with 1 minor scratch on the bumper and one small paint defect on a passenger door. It’s a 1/2019 build. I packed it up and drove down to San Antonio. What a blast this thing is to drive.

As I knew it would, driving the car has completely made me forget about any negatives that happened in my ordering and delivery process. There are definitely kinks that Tesla needs to work out but once they do, I believe they’ll be unstoppable until other manufacturers make electric vehicles this fun. I’ve driven a volt and it doesn’t even compare to the M3. Good luck to everyone waiting.

+1. Tesla really needs to fix the delivery process. What is annoying is having to pay in full for the car and then waiting and waiting for home delivery when the car has been at the Charlotte store for nearly a week. I'm ok waiting, but the lack of communication is the big problem. I think Tesla could really improve things if they called each customer immediately after the order is placed to explain the whole process. Once the customer has paid in full for the delivery (required once the VIN has been assigned), there should be daily progress updates by phone or email. I should not have to email to pester my delivery specialist and hope they email me back. They need to be more proactive.
