Delivery time for Model S

How much time it takes for Tesla Model S from in production to delivery? The status moved to In production on 22nd August.

Production time is about 3 days. Delivery time is variable. Your sales contact at Tesla will be the best source of information for you. Since I had a >2 week trip planned at the time of my anticipated delivery, my delivery specialist was able to move my delivery date up to the day before I left. The only way he could have done that was to have been able to track the car in transit. My car was delivered to Atlanta. My total time from going final to delivery was 30 days. At that time Tesla was listing delivery times for an S of 30 days. I don't think they still do that. On the positive side, with the much greater volume of 3s being delivered there should be a more frequent spots available in the delivery system.

The wait can be agonizing, it is worth it, though. In the mean time I would be inclined to look for a dealer that installs Xpel and plan to have the front surfaces covered. That doesn't cost that much. My first paint chip was on the front bumper on the 90 minute drive home from delivery. I had it installed as soon as I could. In the year since having the Xpel, no more paint chips.

Thank you for your reply. My Tesla status changed to Tesla has been built and in transit from factory. Do you know how much time it takes to reach NJ? My DS is missing in action and does not reply to my mails.

On XPEL, I checked options, I assume that you went with full hood and frontal surfaces right?

Right, it was full hood and frontal. They installed mine while I waited. It takes several hours so you might take a book.

I'm guessing about all the following. In transit means it is finished and out of the factory, it doesn't necessarily mean it is actually underway. A car sitting in a lot awaiting a transit trailer or rail car is “in transit” but isn't actually moving and it can spend some time waiting. I don't think you'll find a set time for transit to NJ. Your car will likely wait to be loaded on a train then go by rail to a regional depot, then be loaded on a trailer with others. There will be delay from train to trailer. The trailer will likely have more than one destination and you won't know where you are in that list. They will assign you a delivery date. Before that date is assigned, it is anyone's guess. Once the delivery date is assigned, it is pretty reliable. It might be possible to move that date up just a bit talking to your local delivery people but I think that is a unusual and much more trouble for them. If you don't have a delivery window assigned yet, it is probably too early to start checking.
