I wonder if there is another non-Tesla alternative out there... Not enough demand so I guess it will be a while until someone figures out a way.

I managed to get him to do it for free through a combination of luck and some persuasive sales skills. Based on what I've read online, Tesla Rangers who come to your home are typically the only ones willing to perform such tasks, as it's outside the "scope" of the service center.
