Escort MAX 360 mount options and questions

Picking up my 85D today (yes!!) and got in the new Escort MAX 360 yesterday. What is the best mount for under the mirror placement do you guys recommend and is getting power to it pretty easy?

Also is there any placement that causes issues with windshield shielding?

Thanks!

I returned my Max360, I have a 90D that was delivered in Sept 2016 so we should have the same windshield. Range was awful due to the windshield shielding, search the forums you will find lots of similar reports. I tried my 360 and my Passport Max in many spots, in short I would typically see the police car by the time the radar went off and off axis reporting was non existent.

I am currently driving cautiously with my old 9500ix until Radenso releases their HD+ remote detector. It has a unit that will mount up front and then connects via bluetooth to the display in the car. Radenso is getting get reviews and the idea of avoiding all of the hassle with the typical remote installs is very appealing to me.

Let me know if you find a spot on the windshield that works well for you, but be VERY VERY cautious while you're driving, don't get lulled into thinking you will have typical range.

To be clear, the Max 360 wasn't a bad unit, it suffers the same as all the other radar detectors due to the coating in the windshield. The rear facing radar worked great as it was aimed out of the rear window.

I currently have a Valentine 1 and the range is very limited with the coated windshield.
I'm interested in the Radenso remote detector - any details on availability and pricing in the US?

There's no way around this is there?

I don't know of any way to remedy it. My windshield has the space for the Ezpass to the right of the rearview mirror, its painted black, the EZPass works fine for me there but from what I was able to tell there is no extra space, outside of the small black area, that isn't coated.

I tried mounting my detector as close up to the EZPass space as I could in the hope that it would work but it didn't. I even tried removing the EZPass and aiming the detector out of the black painted area, also no luck.

If someone finds a solution I'm happy to be proven wrong. Until then I'm waiting for the Radenso HD+ that I mentioned above. I was about to go the Escort 9500ci installed remote route but its very pricey, very nice, but overkill for my personal needs. Right now I have my old 9500ix mounted and plug into the cigarette lighter. (BTW, I tried using the extra plug behind the mic grill to hardwire and that doesn't provide enough power to power any of the three Escort detectors I tried in the Tesla)

I have an escort max, not the 360. It is windshield mounted directly beneath the rear view mirror. Although it's range is somewhat limited by the windshield, it has saved me many times. For those that value of a cop free lifestyle, the benefits outweigh the cost.

Metallic coating on the windshield blocks about half the radar and almost all laser. I've tested this with my grille mounted Beltronics Sti-R Plus and windshield mounted Beltronics Pro 500. With the same settings on both, the windshield mounted unit takes 5-10 seconds longer to detect if it does at all.

I love the 360 features, but it's a huge waste inside the car. Maybe put it on the roof? :p

You laugh but if I had a roof rack that is exactly what I would do. I would make a weatherproof aerodynamic enclosure and place my V1 there, then use a remote display inside. I had a V1 in my 2013MS, no problems, in my 2015, no go, the only cutout is immediately on top to the right of the mirror and it's too small and too high for a radar detector to use. I tested it by parking in front of a radar source and moving the detector around the windshield (and then compare the signal strength through an open window) - the windshield cuts 80% or more of signal strength. :-(
I was considering a double V1 solution now, mount one under the nosecone and one in rear bumper, then write a little bit of software to combine their serial outputs before feeding it to a BT module to display on an android device. Sadly, I don't foresee getting to it at least till next summer, too busy with other things.

You will need to get a detector that has the antenna in the front bumper area. I have 4 detectors. Two STI-R pluses, Sti-r Magnum and a 9500ix. I put the sti-r magnum and 9500ix in the tesla and tested it to my sti-r plus and you can def tell that the windsheild is blocking a lot.

To be honest, taking of the front bumper to mount a remote radar isn't a huge deal. I've done it at least 6 times on mine for various things. Routing it through the firewall is the biggest pain.

But still no remote detector? other than the extraordinarily expensive outdated hardware escort still sells? I would love to cone mount the detector if there was a solid remote display etc.
