I specially like the quote from VW Australia CEO Paul Samson:
"One in two of our customers is walking into our showrooms every day looking for an EV and we can’t satisfy that demand"

The only thing stopping them is the decisions by the manufacturers.

Fuel standards is just the latest excuse.

And as we've seen with Hyundai, it's not just a matter of having the vehicle available, you've got to make it available in sufficient numbers.

Time for a big stick focussed on those things, with fines or tariffs if you don't import a similar selection and amount of EVs to the home market.

Well, yes, but businesses often act only to the extent the law requires them. If a business has to decide to farm out a limited number of EVs to a range of countries, some with mandated emissions standards, and some without, then it’s not rocket science to guess what they will do.

While a manufacturer could voluntarily choose to do otherwise, the fact is they don’t. So we have to legislate to remove that “excuse” in order to change what they do.

I'd rather see legislation to punish them for their insolence, vs any sort of legislative reward or payoff.
