Feature Request: Phone left in car chime

Regular key fobs use a different radio technology and not Bluetooth.

They use a very short range RF signal that doesn’t pass well through metal. So they can put a receiver inside the car that detects the key but interior receiver won’t detect the key if it’s outside the car.

Try this experiment. Put your Tesla phone key on the ground outside of the car and close the door. Try to start it and drive away. It will let you because it cannot tell the phone is not inside.

Now try the same with any other vehicle with a smart key fob. It will say key not detected and won’t let you start. It can tell if the key is inside the car or not.
Ultra wide band iPhones and new teslas have this

This already exists on some level. If you leave the phone in the car the doors stay unlocked and you’ll get an app notification after 5 minutes or so that the doors are unlocked (if you have this notification enabled).

Should be easy enough to have the timer send the notification after ~30 seconds instead of 5+ minutes if someone actually wants that.

5 minutes lol that’s way too long. Look, here’s what’s needed. iPhones and new teslas are all using ultra wide band (extremely close proximity). Phone left in car, door closes, ding from external speaker or customized vocals “digital key left inside, doors are not locked”. That’s it, walk away locks won’t engage until phone aka digital key is removed. Don’t complicate this-just get it done, use a work-a-round if u must but get this simple feature incorporated and send it in a update, no excuses, we don’t want to hear “it won’t work”.
