Tesla has a policy of continous improvements. If a new design, with fewer welds can make the car safer, lighter, faster and cheaper to produce, why would you not implement a running change.
Every weld takes time, cost money, uses energy, creates heat. and is another production point that needs to be attended to.
The sooner that Tesla can produce a quality car that sells for less money than an ICE car, the sooner the conversion from gasoline fueled vehicles can be completed.
