Looks like this is no longer Model S specific and we finally have news of what Tesla plans to do:

Tesla is introducing new paid ‘premium connectivity’ package to support in-car internet features of growing fleet

Standard and Premium connectivity packages. Standard is pretty fair, but I really think they need to include the traffic visualization on the map. That's a huge one.

So "pretty fair" is free? I'm curious, what would have been a more fair price than that?
