FSD Price increasing May 1?

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
It's May 2nd and the price in the USA is still $5K.

So much for the promised price increase.

Promise #1 - By thousands
Promise #2 - By a thousand
Promise #3 - "We will delay $1k full self-driving option price increase until May 10 for those unable to order by May 1"
Reality - Price still the same for people able to order before May 1st.

Reaction - Puts Elon on Mute

I think you misinterpreted #3. I took it as "we will delay for everyone due to some people being unable to order before then."

All those who correctly read Musk’s tweet exchange with the UK customer re the 10 day delay for those who couldn’t order by May 1, you get in A in reading comprehension and probably don’t need to pay anyone to take your SAT test for you. For the rest of you dunces, you can get out your checkbooks and start posing for those rowing team pictures.

PS. Don’t forget to save an extra grand for that FSD price increase that is in effect. Or maybe you can get Fred to whine about the unfairness of it all and convince Musk to rescind the increase.

Ugh, this makes no sense to me. If people were unwilling to pay for the upgrade at $7k for the current features available who is going to get it at $8k.

Maybe it's one of those marketing tactics where the price is increased before a "sale" where it's lowered back to where it was before. So you were unwilling to pay $7k a week ago, but after a month of $8k pricing you'll be willing when it drops back down to $7k for a weekend.

This is nuts!

A few months ago, FSD was $3200 Canadian for me.
Last month it was $6600
Today its $7900
Wish I could remember how much it was when I purchased the M3 on June 10, 2018.

Not going to pay that much.

I would consider the $3000 or less but not more.

I think TESLA needs to honour the cost at time of vehicle purchase.

And there were soooooo many folks on this Forum that were 100% certain that pricing for FSD would absolutely, positively only go one way (i.e. down) back in early March when the sale was on. Those same folks will now be talking about how overpriced it is...of course they could have paid the $2000 in March. To me, that just screamed "deal!"

You're mentally inserting an "only" into Elon's tweet. He never said "only for those unable to order by May 1."

He stated a group that was exempt.

So why would you expect it not to be an only? Elon doesn't have a tendency to use more words than absolutely necessary.

The only thing I got wrong was thinking Tesla would actually be on time. But, I figured a price increase would be the one time it would happen. :p

So if you didn’t purchase either AP or FSD at delivery, you could theoretically have to pay $12K to purchase both after delivery. Who is going to pay $12K for that?

When I put my deposit on an M3 down three years ago I really thought that FSD was the main thing that differentiated Tesla from other vehicles. After having EAP on our first M3 and seeing how rough it is I realized that I placed far too much value on it. Fortunately everything else about the car has been fantastic. I just don’t like letting the car drive itself. The car is a pleasure to drive but when FSD is driving for me I feel like I’m being driven by some crazy NYC taxi driver on Ritalin.

Same price for me and I got EAP 9/2018. What was deal in March?

We bought our rear-wheel drive extended range Tesla Model 3 in August 2018 and ponied up for the EAP upgrade to standard AP. Ever since then, when I log on my Tesla account and look at software upgrades available for purchase, I've seen the FSD option priced at $5,000. I heard a rumor toward the end of March that Tesla had lowered the price to $2,000 so I logged on to look and, sure enough, it showed it for $2,000. I discussed it with my wife as I was sorely tempted to do the upgrade. She was less convinced, saying Full Self Driving was not available anywhere in the USA and who knows when/if it will ever be. After debating this back and forth for several days, she said fine, let's go ahead and get the upgrade, since we'll also get new/upgraded hardware related to FSD when it becomes available. So I logged back on but by now it was about April 2 or 3 and I saw that the $2,000 FSD upgrade was gone and now it was showing $5,000 again. I did a little research and found that the lowered price for FSD was a mistake that had been made and that Tesla corrected. I was super bummed!

Now here it is nearing mid-May and when I log on my Tesla account, I see that the FSD upgrade has increased in price from $5,000 to $6,000. Ouch! That puts it even further out of reach. It kind of seems like Tesla is trying to discourage owners that didn't already pony up for FSD from upgrading by making the option pricier and pricier. Which is really too bad.

I guess some would retort, "Well, if you snooze, you lose," or "He/she who hesitates is lost."

Sigh.
