Full Self Driving Transferability

I would like to have the full self driving capability at some point in the future.
However, if my car is totaled, the self driving feature adds no scrap value to the car since it’s a software feature.

I should get credit for my purchase on a replacement Tesla.

Also, the same credit should apply when I change vehicles, i.e., if I trade-in my current Model S for a new one, no matter the model.

Proposal Summary:
Once I purchase the software feature, it should follow me at no added cost on a new Tesla.

Wouldn't your insurance cover the cost of FSD though if it was part of the car when the car was totaled?

It’s no different from any other option and ostensibly DOES have value when you sell your car or get made whole by an insurance company after a loss.

It’s a capability of the car itself, not the owner.

I would think that a transfer could be in order if, for example, you have a model 3 with EAP and FSD and you trade up for a Model S with EAP or AP.
The FSD on the Model 3 hasn't been utilized but has been paid for. I would agree that any option should have some value, but if you are trading with Tesla, not so much.
