Gov. Abbott speaks against Tesla direct sales

Isn't he the same one who thinks the US Army is going to take over Texas and impose marshal law? IIRC he's got the Texas National Guard watching the US Army exercises just in case.
Yes, definitely crazy:
"We finally know the details of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's plan to monitor the military exerciseJade Helm 15 to ensure it does not subjugate an unruly Texas and place it under Islamic control, or whatever the newest version of that theory is on a day-to-day basis. Behold the crack monitoring team charged with keeping Texas free:
Abbott's office said Tuesday that four to five members of the State Guard are expected to coordinate with a military liaison at Austin's Camp Mabry, according to The San Antonio Express-News. The State Guard is expected to brief the governor's office once a day, offering a review of the past 24 hours' activity as well as a rundown of what's scheduled to happen in the next 72 hours. The State Guard is not expected to monitor "Jade Helm 15" in the field, however, according to the newspaper.

If they can't monitor them in the field how will they know when the takeover has started? Isn't 'State guard' actually the national guard which has the word National in it!?[emoji3]. Talk about pandering to your base.

I expect Abbott is genuinely unaware of the facts (in several areas). One of the things that happens to top leadership is that they get most of their information heavily filtered & slanted from underlings.... so it's not just him - it's also the people who report to him... all making political decisions that are disconnected from reality. This can only change if there is an enormous ground-swell of demand from the general public for a Tesla presence in the state.

And it is interesting to watch the same supporting Uber and Lyft and the bad taxi companies trying to block their new model of innovation.

Most likely the taxi companies have not been paying off like TADA.

I spent 7 years working in Texas and, just to try to understand - and occasionally for humor, I listened to far right radio every day. When you start to comprehend the mentality, things that seemed incongruous suddenly make sense.

Put yourself in shoes of the "common working man" who is the core for this group. Uber and Lyft can impact him directly: either as a way to make some money on the side (much of it in tips and therefore can be "hidden" from onerous federal taxation), or a less expensive way to taxi. So, that's good stuff. On the other hand, this guy certainly has friends in some aspect of the oil business (especially in Texas). He sees federal subsidies for EV cars, and that's something the Feds should not be doing with his money. And Tesla is irrelevant. It's not a car he can afford, nor one he aspires to. It's something for a bunch of technology millionaires - not his crowd. So, while I'm not sure this guy wants to block Tesla, he's not going to be part of the groundswell against TADA. And if this is the person the Guv polls to make his decisions, the positions make more sense.

Or, as you said, it could just be money talking.
