Green Homes Grant - PV or Battery storage eligible?

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
The Government has announced that up to £5000 will be available for households to make their homes greener, with Government paying at least two thirds of the bill.

Does anyone have any info on whether this could be used for PV or battery storage projects? It would appear to fit the brief?

Luke

Standard government announcement...

1. Minor details leaked the day before to gauge reaction ahead of speech.
2. Some extra details given in SoS speech to gauge reaction ahead of a specific publication.
3. Based on the reaction, final details will arrive on the gov.uk website in a week or two.

Am really hoping for solar PV/battery grants too, but not hugely hopeful.

Pity if it's restricted to direct solar water heating, IMHO. We use our PV system to heat our hot water for most of the time, and although, in theory, PV is less efficient, in practice it's a bit cheaper for a given amount of hot water. Most of that is because the price of a PV system of a given power output is somewhat lower than that of a direct solar thermal system, although it does take up a lot more area.

In terms of reliability, then PV also seems to win out for heating hot water. Our neighbour has an evacuated tube solar hot water system, and she's needed to have it maintained regularly in order to keep it going, and even then it's packed up on her a few times. It has meant that I've found out a bit about how they work, though, and how to fix them when they don't. It seems there aren't that many people around who understand how solar thermal systems work, although she's found there are lots of them that want to sell her a new system . . .

It seems it's solar heating, not PVs. However is anyone aware of a PV that also does solar heating that might be included in the grant?

I've also been thinking about PVs and a powerwall for some time.
you will not be entitled to any grants as you have too much money BUT having solar thermal is good a good system will cost 5k to buy but you wont have your boiler on through out summer best thing for you is to get a night time electricity rate of 5p per kw so from 12 till 4 you get this rate get 7kw of battery back up size your home for this and run your home on time rate house and car

That is exactly what I’ve been wondering but have only been able to confirm it’s for insulation so far.
as you know the grants are for low income family but not is all lost have a look at this Green Homes Grant Scheme - CC Solar - Sussex based Solar PV installers also the best way is to get onto the How much could you get paid for renewable electricity? – Which? News you can buy a 4kw for £3999.00 the clever bit is to charge your home at night 12till 4am run your home during the day with a rate of 4p per kw your car is a storage systeam also
