Has Elon had an input into the TMC refresh

Too late, the payment to this forum came out of my account by direct debit a few weeks ago, and now I've sold my Model 3, so am here under false pretences . . .

Has Elon had an input into the TMC refresh

I agree. last night when I was using a Macbook to view the forum it looked fine. This morning I'm using a Windows PC and it's not clear at all.

Same here, they were usually pretty much OK in daylight, or on well-lit roads, it was in the pitch dark that they were pretty much useless. Probably related to the variable ability of the cameras to get good enough close up fine detail in low light, I suspect.

Short 3Ph Type 2 charging cable

The cheapest option would be to order a new, longer, length of cable, plus two terminal kits, one male, one female. It's about half an hour or so's work to strip both connectors, cut off and discard the existing terminals at the vehicle end and cable and crimp up a new length of cable with new...

UK For Sale / Wanted / Free [closed for new items]

The following stuff will be for sale on ebay by the end of the week: New and unused (still in box) 5m long, 32A, single phase, Type 2 tethered cable, complete with the "Tesla button", that allows remote opening of the charge port flap (if the car is unlocked) and also early charge termination...

Deleting personal data - Model 3

I can confirm that the key cards remained paired, but that the remote fob and both phones were deleted. Interesting that the pairing is stored in the centre console, and explains why the bags containing the key cards seem to be taped there when the car is delivered, perhaps. All told, it was...

Deleting personal data - Model 3

I got caught out by the screen defaulting back to Fremont etc after doing the reset, but it all came back to normal before I'd reached the end of the drive. I also found that it wouldn't accept a nav destination whilst locked in "Fremont mode". Not sure why, but several attempts to enter an...

    [UK] 2021.4.x

Mine installed 2021.4.11 today, went straight from 2020.48.35.5 Just got back and regen is back to the way I remember it from months ago. Very much better than it has been for the past few months. Battery was fairly cool, too, the car was at 6°C and hadn't been driven for about two days, so...

Perhaps they need to get Sandy Munro to drive a RHD Model 3 and advise them on how well the UI works. IIRC, he wears reading glasses, so should be an ideal candidate as a tester, especially given his experience with car design and manufacture.

Deleting personal data - Model 3

I've been following the ID.3 for a long time, even put down a deposit for one about two years ago now, and the ID.3 was on my wife's shortlist for a new car. It's impressive just how quickly VW have been able to develop a car from the ground up, with relatively little EV experience. Not...

    [UK] 2021.4.x

This is probably the point that REALLY needs to be emphasised to those who are designing and signing off on the UI. I'm becoming more and more convinced that there's no proper UI testing taking place actually in the car, or a simulation of it, especially for RHD drive cars. There's a world...

Deleting personal data - Model 3

We will soon have two new EVs to compare to the Tesla, the I-Pace plus my wife's Renault Zoe that she picks up at the start of April. Should be interesting to make some comparisons, as my past experience has been just with various models of Prius (including a PHEV for ~5 years) and a year or so...

Deleting personal data - Model 3

Sadly the constant annoyance at having to do daft things like stop the car, just to safely turn the wipers on or off, has really been bugging me for the past few months, and taken away most of the enjoyment of driving. It's not just me, my wife refuses to drive the car, having been scared a...

    Taxis using charge points

I'm in two minds about this. Public chargers are just that, public chargers, that can be used by anyone at any time, irrespective of their job. The flip side is that if taxis are blocking access to chargers for long periods of time, then that's similar to someone pulling up to a filling...

Deleting personal data - Model 3

Thanks for the kind words. I will probably lurk around here for a time, as may get another Tesla at some future date, my experience with the Model 3 hasn't been as negative as it sometimes might appear. If anything, it's been my changed driving pattern over the past months of lockdown, as it...

Deleting personal data - Model 3

Many thanks, the car's not going until next week, so I may have a trial run to see how it goes. I can live without the car having my personal settings for a day or two, especially as we're not exactly driving a lot right now.

    Home charging location of Charger

No problem in the regs with fitting a charge point to a timber post, just done this myself yesterday (see this post: DIY charge point ). There's nothing much in a charge point to cause a fire hazard, anyway, it's just a controlled mains switch and outlet, there's no high power charging...

Deleting personal data - Model 3

My Model 3 has now been sold, so I need to delete all the personal settings, nav stuff, phone pairings etc. I understand this can be done by using the "factory reset" option, but have read several conflicting stories about this taking a long time, sometimes failing, needing a SC visit, etc...

On iPhones that option appears whenever the Tesla app is running in the background. Confirmed this recently when my wife tried to send a destination to my car and the option wasn't there. She'd turned the Tesla app off, as it was setting the wrong profile when we both got in the car and I was...

    Lithium-Ion Battery concerns

Around 30 years ago, when we first started using lithium batteries in stuff carried in aircraft, there was a lot of concern about how a fire would be managed. In the end, the answer was to change the extinguishing systems, or add to them, so there were always graphite powder ones wherever there...

    Lithium-Ion Battery concerns

Perhaps worth remembering that there are hundreds of millions of phones, laptops and tablet devices around with lithium ion batteries, that the majority of them have a more dangerous chemistry than that used by Tesla (LiCo2 is still commonplace in such devices), and that the majority of the...

Does Sentry mode full replace dashcam?

It was a bit fiddly, but not that difficult. I fitted the cam party behind the mirror, tight to the side of the internal forward looking camera housing, with the cable tucked in behind the edge of the headlining. I partly removed the trim down the A pillar and tucked the lead down there and fed...

    Few thoughts with car back

Not sure I get your point, or that it is valid here in the UK (this is the UK and Ireland forum). Here, Tesla are selling cars as fast as they get off the boat. They don't advertise, and don't need to, they have queues of people waiting for cars to be delivered. Buyers accept cars at delivery...

Does Sentry mode full replace dashcam?

One really big advantage of using a decent dash cam is much reduced battery drain. Sentry mode uses a ludicrous amount of power from the battery, something like 200 W to 300 W IIRC. A decent dash cam with its own standby battery pack will only present a tiny fraction of the drain, so is...

    DIY charge point

Time for another DIY charge point build, this time in readiness for the arrival of my wife's Renault Zoe in a few weeks time. She parks at the opposite end of the drive, around 40m from the house, and next to our garage. When I built the house I fitted a charge point just inside the garage...

    Company Registered keeper query

Having the DVLA record it as a change of keeper can knock a lot off the value. I've just bought a car that has a handful of miles on the clock (less than the average Tesla delivery mileage) for about £18k under list price, because it was registered at the end of December 2020. Most of that...

    Questionable Bodyshop treatment of battery!!??

Easy check for the mythical (and completely illegal) "signal blocker". The car uses LTE for comms, so if a mobile phone works there the car can communicate. You need to report the illegal use of the signal blocker, too, as the regulator will definitely take enforcement action, as blocking...

Andersen Charger Installation from Meter Cupboard - Advice Please!

Useful that he's taken the time to note the measured value of Ze in felt pen. Be useful if this was standard practice, as it's a faff to have to isolate the supply and disconnect the PE to measure it again when doing any work that needs a chit.

Problem charging at 1.4 Kw on a cold day

IIRC, it's been reported previously that charging at the minimum current in IEC 61851 (6 A) might be a bit hit and miss. I think the recommendation was to use 8 A as the minimum, in order to avoid problems. FWIW, this is not a Tesla-unique issue, as other EVs also tend to play up down at 6 A...

Anyone comparing the e-tron GT to the Model S

I had a look at the e-tron recently. Very impressed, TBH. As you say, you get a fair bit of equipment as standard, that's well worth bearing in mind when making comparisons. I was very tempted to go for an e-tron, the main reason I didn't was the efficiency, the rather underwhelming handling...

Where is regen setting on Model 3

Completely off-topic: Was asked to drop a friend's ashes from the air, whilst flying low along a ridge, with all the mourners stood on the top. Had the ashes in the plastic urn from the crematorium, where they pack them inside a plastic bag. I opted to just take the bag out of the urn, open...

    Regen Dots

Same here, regen has been weak to non-existent for the past couple of months, presumably because it's been cold. I don't remember it being like this last winter, though, and have wondered if cool weather regen has been turned down a bit with one of the updates.

    Questionable Bodyshop treatment of battery!!??

I've only once had to get a car extensively repaired after an accident, and my insurance company initially insisted on using their own "authorised repairer". I knew a very good body shop (been friends with the chap that runs it for years) and asked if the car could go there instead. The...

    Car behaviour on Minor Roads

Not found a way to stop the "klaxons of doom" and the hard braking/steering intervention yet. I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with any form of lane keeping assistance, as it does it when neither AP or TACC are being used, and with everything that can be turned off, turned off. I...

    Home Charging Advice- Short Term

If considering fitting a Commando socket, then it is important to note what @GeorgeSymonds has written above. Section 722 of BS7671:2018, Amndt 1 applies to ANY outlet installed for EV charging, whether it be an all-singing, all-dancing charge point or a humble single gang 13 A circuit. As...

    Car behaviour on Minor Roads

Mine seems to vary from a barely perceptible nudge, to, as happened last week, a pretty vigorous turn to the right. It's always a turn to the right, never the left, something that's puzzled me with one road junction where this happens regularly. The junction looks like this (very rough...

    Car behaviour on Minor Roads

There do seem to be some significant differences between cars, not sure whether it's some sort of variability in the sensors or perhaps just the specific type of road people use (my theory is that it's probably the latter). The last severe event (last Wednesday morning) I documented in this...

    Home Charging Advice- Short Term

The cost difference between getting a power outlet installed and a charge point installed won't be massive. Any power outlet intended for charging an EV outside needs to comply with the same provisions, in terms of safety requirements, as a charge point. The options are: 1. Install a...

    Non-chill acceleration mode

Be interesting to drive the same route in chill mode and standard mode, then compare the data from something like Teslamate. If I can think of a legitimate (and legal!) excuse to go out for a drive I might try it, perhaps pick a straight stretch of road, accelerate as hard as possible until...

Was going to order, now in 2 minds

I'd just like to add that the "automatic" adjustment doesn't always work well. The three times I've had to do this, (entering the headlight adjustment menu and selecting the start of the process which motors the lights to a mid-position, before allowing manual fine tuning of the position), has...

    Non-chill acceleration mode

Absolutely! The thing that first really convinced me that EVs were the way forward was that combination of loads of torque and the instant response. Back when I tuned up cars for a bit of weekend racing it was always a compromise between being easy to drive and having maximum power. An EV...

    Non-chill acceleration mode

Clearly "chill" mode is very controversial to some, judging my my very innocuous remark from 15 months ago causing someone to get very annoyed by it all this time later. Very bizarre, and strangely not the first time something completely innocuous has attracted some ire. FWIW, I tried chill...

Tell me what's great about your car

Mirrors my experience, but I think there's also a speed-related aspect, as well. At low speeds there's rarely a problem. Almost all the odd events on narrow roads seem to happen when accelerating, not to any particularly fast speed, 30mph or so is quite enough to trigger something. I'm near...

Tell me what's great about your car

Not at all true. I don't use AP (or TACC) most of the time, because it's just not safe or sensible to try and use either of these features on very narrow and winding roads. Tesla make it clear that AP should not be used on roads like this, and TBH I've never once tried to do so. I have tried...
