Does anyone know if Tesla has any plans to get into the housing market?
We have a housing shortage in many parts of the country.

I do not think housing is mentioned in their mission statement. They have been fairly consitent about focusing on their mission. Based on that, it is my opinion they won't be building any homes soon.

Not as a builder, just as a supplier of solar+storage, and maybe HVAC in the future.

There are some companies trying to improve manufactured housing.

As you say "parts of the country", in my mind it's not merely a house building problem it's a location of jobs problem. Detroit has 1000s of empty big houses, but no one wants to live there as there aren't enough jobs as there used to be. Perhaps one policy should be relocation of jobs, spread them around, might be cheaper than building 1000s of homes.

Its similar in the UK, lot's of jobs in London causing housing shortage in South East UK but lots of empty homes up North where there are fewer jobs.

Good info. I know that schools play a big part. People want to know that there will be good schools around.
