On this forum, I've seen several people write as if eventual discounts are almost guaranteed. Even our delivery specialist joked that Elon would discount it whenever Tesla needed cash. I tried searching for past sales, and as far as I can tell there's only ever been one; the big discount offered in early March.

Are discounts really that frequent? Or is that one big discount so recent that it's just on the forefront of people's minds?

It's a bit silly that AP is still thousands of dollars on a car that is supposed to be ahead of everyone in every way...

But it costs $650 on a Nissan

Basically waiting until Tesla comes to their senses and catches up with the times. I'll go as high as $1000 for something that costs them literally 0 dollars to enable - it is pure profit at this point.

I will bet this happens in the next few months.

Tesla has not made profit yet.
They need people to keep buying the software.

They did the right thing by milking all the early adopters and people with spare cash on hand. Now it's time to harvest the rest of the holdouts. The only way to do that is entice with price. Not saying give it away obviously. I need this company to stick around - I'm already in too deep and will need spare parts eventually. Plus they do a great job and I believe in the mission. However when every other maker is starting to offer it for less, it stops being rare and justifiably expensive like everything else - ABS, automatic brakes, etc.

AP for less is the logical next step to stay competitive. It will increase profit, that's the point. They already have the software... Look at most big companies - Chevy, Ford, Wallmart - they get big and highly profitable by selling lots of cheap stuff, not a few expensive things. Tesla should remain a premium brand, but they need mass market penetration.

Can anyone confirm that the non-trial price for AP is currently $3,000? We're still on a trial for about 30 days, with a price of $3,000 offered. I assumed it would go up to $3,500 after the trial, but I've seen a few members here say their upgrade page says $3,000 even without the trial.

Tesla can change the price any time they feel like it. The post delivery price was always advertised as $4,000. It mysteriously dropped to $3,000 last week with no explanation or announcement of why it changed. It could just as easily go back up without any notice.

Owner for 3 and X who purchased EAP for 5k on each car. FSD is 5k to upgrade to. Definitely not spending $10k in software on each car, hard pass for me. EAP covers almost all of the FSD features which are out. EAP is still unreliable and I have been losing confidence in it that I use it less and less. If we can return the software for a refund I would. Phantom brakes on autopilot have totally turned me away it. Also summon and autopark are frankly not very good.

Only part of your statement is true. Yes, I agree there is no hardware change, no service center appointment require for them to enable AP for potential Tesla owner. They can flip a switch, click on a button on a browser, etc.

But I wouldn't necessary call it pure profit, because the AP software doesn't come out of thin air. They have to hire engineers to develop that software, and continue to put those said engineers on their payroll so they can improve on it.

We all love the software updates from Tesla, but they costs money.

Kind of like all the software locked batteries, the S40 cost 10K to unlock to an S60, Now it's 2500. Same with the new 60/70/75 It used to be 10K I think, then 5K now it's down to 2500. The 70 to 75 is only $250 now compared to 2,500 when I first looked at it.

Agreed...I'd pay $3k for FSD but they want $7k which will never happen. Also Elon says going up more on May 1st. You think lower cost would mean more ppl buying which would be more profit but I guess I'm wrong. I can't justify $7k
