Installing wall charger outside in Ottawa?

Electrician coming today to my house today and I was intending to install it on the side of my house in the driveway. Just read the install Manual and it states “protection from rain is recommended but not required “
Has anyone in a cold snowy climate like Ottawa installed it outside?

I have seen them outdoors in many places - most destination Tesla charging is HPWCs on poles fully exposed to the elements. That being said I imagine that it will negatively affect the longevity of the HPWC.

Same here in QC. Mine is outside, and was installed by Tesla Certified electrician. He only advised to keep it clear of snow.

I have had mine installed outside, on my riding arena, since February 2015. Orangeville gets similar weather to Ottawa. No issues

If I were to do it I would install a small roof over the unit to reduce the exposure and increase the life span of the unit. Something like an old time phone roof.

Most of the HPWC’s here in Nova Scotia are exposed to the elements, and they do just fine.

If it bothers you, build a little box around it to keep the worst of the elements off it like I did:

Had mine installed outside as well, earlier in October.

Good question, my master electrician would have mentioned that if needed, I would have thought.
I noticed some others who posted their install did not have a cut off switch evident either?
