Irregular inboard shoulder wear on rear tires due to insufficient toe-in

wow this could go down as the most misdiagnoised problem ever on a tesla

DESCRIPTION

The rear tires on Model S (2021+) are fitted with 21" wheels and should have alignment set slightly toe-in according to the Wheel Alignment specifications. Simulations have shown that if toe is close to zero and especially toe-out (even on one side), it can accelerate tire wear of the rear inner shoulder, as shown in the following:

STEPS TO TEST

  1. Confirm the rear tire inner shoulder is excessively worn.
  2. Document the tire type.
  3. Perform a full alignment check according to Service Manual procedure: Four Wheel Alignment Check - Correction code 31002100.
  4. Document the values.

If there is irregular inboard shoulder wear on the rear tires due to the alignment being toe out or near zero, then this is the issue.

STEPS TO FIX

  1. Replace any tires worn beyond acceptable wear.
  2. Align the wheels according to Service Manual procedure: Four Wheel Alignment Check and Adjust - Correction code 31002300.
