Is the HEPA filter used in normal everyday use without BioDefense mode enabled?

Does anyone know if the HEPA filter in the 2021 MY is used at all in every day use without BioDefense mode enabled?

If not, its just a regular car filter like any other ICE car is that it? I'd activate it in traffic but its so noisy with the fans at max levels when you enable that mode

No, only in the air path when BioDefence mode turned on and blower must be on high.

All other times the HVAC is using the same filters that all Model Y's have.
Is that the case? The air intake port under the cover in the front is now positioned to receive air from the HEPA filter unit. It’s sealed on top to this unit. Seems like it is using it, at least in part. Being there are no electrics to the HEPA filter unit, there’s no way of switching the intake. Now, I didn’t dig deep but I didn’t see a second air intake below that could have been switched to when not enabling BioD.
