Family wants to make this trip again next year, staying at NEOC, so even though nobody showed up for the 2022 rally I’ll be there again in 2023.

We can pick a weekend other than the holiday weekend. Maybe best if we’re flexible as the day approaches to settle on Saturday or Sunday. Any requests?

In addition to the dirt road around Mt Katahdin inside Baxter State Park there is also the dirt Katahdin Loop Road inside the National KWW Monument, which I have not ridden on, but the National Park Service has posted a warning about road conditions. Both roads provide access to campsites and trailheads. Reservations are required in the State Park but the Monument is first come-first served.

The NPS app is a good resource for exploring the Monument, but be sure to download the park info since there is no cell service in most of the region.

Time to start planning for a weekend of Maine Fall activities including the second leaf peeping unofficial Katahdin Woods and Waters Scenic Byway Tesla Rally!

Sunday October 8, 2023 in the middle of the long holiday weekend. Starts at Noon in Medway.

I have already booked a lodge at Outdoor Adventure and Lakeside Lodging in Maine | New England Outdoor Center for Sunday and Monday night and am surprised they had availability this late.

If traveling north on Rt 1 through Bucksport and the skies are clear consider a quick stop a the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory when they open at 9AM then drive 1.5 hours north to Medway for the Rally Rates and Hours | Penobscot Narrows Bridge & Observatory

Plan:
--meet at Medway Supercharger at Noon
--drive north on 95 with Mt. Katahdin view rest stop (20 miles highway)
--continue North on the highway
--turn south onto scenic Rt 11 at Sherman (25 miles winding road)
--return to Supercharger


Options:
--picnic lunch stop at Grindstone Falls park on Rt 11
--continue north to Patten for another magnificent view, grocery shopping, the Lumberman's Museum
--continue further north towards Baxter State Park Northgate at Matagamon (roads are not as nice).

Combine this event with a weekend adventure in Baxter State Park or with other area outdoor activities.
