I'm just repeating what I was told by my service manager. The newer models (production in 2010) have a similar motor, only the software is what makes the difference.

I was also told by the UK Sales and Service Managers that the motors ARE the same and the firmware is THE difference between standard 2010 Roadster 2.0 and Sport.

I was told by Dan Myggen that the key difference is that the Sport motor is hand-wound to get a higher winding density. The firmware difference adjusts the control electronics to take best advantage of the better motor characteristics.
