Michigan Ordering Question

I am fairly close to ordering a model 3. In an effort to save as much money as possible I wanted to see if what I have picked up on is true for Michigan.

I am 5 months away from my birthday, so I should be able to renew my car's plate now. Then when I buy the model 3 I can transfer the plate for only 15 dollars. This will be good for 1.4 years, meaning I don't have to pay the electric vehicle fee this year, or even the more expensive registration for a new car.

Is this scenario correct? Does it require a trade in or can I private sale my current car and then have its plate put on the model 3? Again only for Michigan folks.

I like to know this as well. I pick up my car Friday. It comes with a 45 day temp plate.

I can renew my registration for my old car now and then transfer. That was going to be my plan regardless, but now there may be a reason.

Picked up my model 3 about 7ish weeks ago. My plate was good until Jan 2020, I had to pay the following fees.

You can transfer your plate if you sell your car to a dealership to private. Its your plate.

Transfer Plate Fee: $8
