This is good news! Now if Tesla can make the front passenger seat fold flat in line with the flat back seat (like the Honda Fit), now you really have my attention! I'll be able to carry building studs (the wooden kind) in there with the trunk lid closed.

Yep, but you're still in a civic.
It is very cool, but 5’6” of space is super small. Nice option but to actually use it while camping, I'm not sold. I'd rather still have my tent and sleeping bag.

I remember seeing a Scion xB with the rear seats-backs folded down, and the front seats laid nearly flat (head rests removed). It created an almost flat surface where you could fit an inflatable mattress. I'm hoping something similar for the M3.
That's amazing. Nobody has ever thought anything like this before! Maybe Tesla could reuse that feature in the second row seats of the X?

It has been known for months that the Model 3 seats will fold flat, and the Electrek article you linked to even says as much, quote "We actually already had a pretty good idea about the back seats folding flat since Musk said that a bike will still fit “no problem”..."

You can easily transport 8ft 2x4s in a Model S with the lid closed. Even without the front seats folding flat.
What WOULD have been nice if there was through access to the frunk so you could carry 12ft pieces.
The measurement of the room with the seats folded is - as far as I know - news.

Elon said my road bike would fit. Standard road bikes are ~5.5ft long so I still argue its not.

Hey....lets go the whole nine yards and fold down the drivers seat also. That would work great with my pano roof as I sleep under the starts.
