I have a long drive to reverse into and I wondered how the Model 3 rear camera behaved in low light conditions on the most recent models. Thanks for any feedback.
It's not great... I have found by coming off the accelerator whilst reversing and letting the regenerative braking to kick and fire up the brake light you can do it. I have a tricky reverse and have to weave in between a number of cars and I manage it fine now.
I have found reversing in the dark no problem. I either have to reverse a sharp right hand turn between two low walls, with a drop on the left, or do a longer S reverse. I’ve found both no problem in terms of the camera or driving. I think the camera is better than the one in my Renault Zoe and that was good.
The problem with reversing lights is that they illuminate an area too close to the car to be really useful. I would prefer the camera to have a good low light resolution. My phone can take videos in almost darkness, I don’t think it’s asking a lot for modern cars to do the same.
That’s assuming the camera is IR sensitive. I’m certainly not adverse to a little experimentation although I would like to keep the car warranty. When I get it that is.
