Model S refresh "MI04"

I ordered a Model S via the Palo Alto showroom on 2/15/2019. The car went into production on 2/19.
The image of the car in my Tesla account changed from MI03 option code to MI04 on 2/25, the funny thing is that they have yet to update the images associated with the MI04 tag which causes the old Model S to appear in its place.

When I receive the vehicle on 3/5, I will the DS and post more information about it here.
I highly doubt that this will be the case but you never know! Hahaha I will update when I pick up my Tesla soon.

MI03 would correspond to 2018, MI02 - 2017, MI01 - 2016, MI00 - 2015 and before.

I am pretty sure that the MI codes refer to the yearly production/manufacturing refresh starting in 2015. MI03 would correspond to 2018, MI02 - 2017, MI01 - 2016, MI00 - 2015 and before.

I used to think that as well, and EV-CPO used to translate those codes that way, but I did a quick query of MI0* code across "model" years (from the VIN and 'year' field in the data stream which match up), and here are the results:

Cars with code: MI00:

What I've concluded (at least for now) is that if a car has MI00, or no MI0* code at all, it's a classic nosecone car, otherwise, it's a facelift car. I haven't found any distinctions between MI01,MI02,MI03 or MI04. It's possibly an internal version or release number.

Out of interest... What kind of badge is on your rear trunk lid? Long Range?
We saw a few cars on the lot yesterday that had recently been delivered to the store. They all had 100D badges under the protective shipping wrap. They had 2019 VINs and stickers on the car indicated late February dates but we don't know if that was build date, ship date or something different.

Isn't that a bit strange that they stick with the badging even though they clearly got rid of that nomenclature earlier this year? At some point they for sure need to change this. I mean, what type of badge will they put on the "Standard range" Model S that has shorter range than the 100D? 84D? :D

Yeah. We are scheduled to take delivery later this week so I'll be asking about the badge. Perhaps they will have Long Range badges eventually but are just shipping with the 100D badges they already have in stock.

We're still waiting on Model 3 badging for a car that was delivered in September 2018 and badging and spoiler for a Model 3 Performance from December 2018.

Last week they were still arriving at intermountain west delivery centers w battery capacity labelling.

Thanks for info. A bit strange that they still pump out cars with the old naming standard even though they changed months ago in the design studio. Can't be that hard to change a badge to reflect what the customer actually has ordered. Or just leave out the badge and change the graphics in the instrument cluster display to Long Range, Performance etc.

Wonder if there will be a switch soon. It is so frustrating all this. Sometimes I really wish it was more clear from Teslas part. As a customer wanting to buy a vehicle right now I just can not decide. Will probably go down the Model 3 route instead because there at least we know that it wont be any major overhauls the coming year or so. Sigh :)
 
Bumping this thread now when it is starting to get more imminent :D

I'm surprised that there is not more talk over the "CH09" option that is now in all manufacture strings for European cars. This is something that indicates a change to the charger/charge port. Could this be the switch to CCS charging for Model S and X in Europe?

And could the MI04 change indicate that this is a rear facelift? To fit a CCS charging port the rear light need to house a larger charge port and for being able to do this Tesla need to introduce new tail lights. A perfect opportunity to combine those.
