Two years ago if you were asked if Musk would announce a mission to Mars in 2018 or a "goal" of selling 500,000 model 3's in 2018...Which would of seemed more likely.. He anounced the mission to Mars last week..

It'll be 250k of Model 3 in 2018 and Red Dragon on Mars two years after. Still, I would not call that a failure

i agree and in the big picture I don't know how important future predictions really are but then again, who would of believed Elon Musk would be announcing a "test flight" to Mars for 2018 which he did last week via Twitter.

I would never bet against Musk accomplishing an announced objective. He will do it, but it might take longer than he wants. Considering how difficult his objectives are, that is hardly surprising.

I think 500k Model 3 is more achievable than Mars mission. Mars is a new frontier, so we don't know what hurdles might come up while attempting that goal.

Actually I believe the goal is 500,000 teslas in general which would equate to about 325,000 model 3's..Hell, that should be no problem..
