Nebraska, OPPD Douglas County, $4500/$500 Rebate Thread

As much as I would love for everyone on here to get the rebate I actually hope it runs out fast. Part of the purpose of this was to see if the incentive would increase ownership. If they show a 10% statewide ownership increase in a matter of months I would considered that a huge success.

It appears the NCEA got $566k out of roughly $30 million the Nebraska Environmental trust handed out this year. They ranked 16 out of roughly 70 approved applications with 110 submitted. I would think there could be some more money to come.

The pieces are falling into place. Acquired Model 3, check. Acquired Chargepoint, check. Need to get forms from Tesla to get my registration. Need to get charger hooked up and working. Need to gather receipts. My delivery specialist said there were "five or six" of us from Omaha clamoring for our materials to get the rebate. Off we go!

I successfully completed the setup and installation of the ChargePoint Home. I got the hard wire version, and since I had a NEMA 14-50 in my garage, ready for the Model 3, I made my own extension cord to complete the charger. I got a Coleman Cable 09044 4-foot 50 amp 4-wire range power cord ($13.95), cut the wire ends off, tinned/soldered the ends, put in a bushing, hooked it all up, and hung it on my wall. I wanted to be able to take it with me rather than hard wire it or have to find an adapter to make the NEMA 6-50 plug work with my 14-50 outlet.

Now I just need my receipt from Tesla so I can register the car, upload those two documents, and hope I am in the first 50 applicants.

I just submitted mine this morning. Don't worry I live ~2,000 feet from the county line so I only get the $500.

I had a conversation with my Go-To rep in KC, he said after delivery to expect 10-15 business days before you get paperwork to register. Worst case, Delivery within the next two weeks would mean being able to register right about early October. It will be interesting to see how quickly the last 25 go. Just started getting quotes from electricians Tuesday, we need a new service panel and we'll probably trench and bury our main line... it'll be nice if the rebate comes through. I'm sure it will eat every penny.

I just submitted everything. It was a bit harrowing, only because it seems like one of these days it is going to be over (hopefully weeks from now so that I qualify and some of you will be able to get this rebate also). And I wasn't sure what they (OPPD) wanted. What Tesla calls the Bill of Sale is most likely what they want for the dealer invoice. More difficult to be sure on was the itemized sales receipt they wanted for the ChargePoint charger. I got it through their site, and I could not find a receipt. There was a Packing List that seemed to have all the required data, and which one person (very nice, Shaneese) said (after she called the rebate department) should work. Always difficult (for me, at least) when something specifically is asked for and you only have something else that looks like it might be right. $4500 riding on it, I don't want it to be wrong!

They are super helpful and will let you know if they need a different document. Also, I'd be surprised if they didn't go slightly over 50 just so they they aren't screwing anyone out of $4k even though they were a half a day later than someone else. They seem like legitimately good people over there.

OPPD updated their page again today. 18 remaining. So they went through 7 in the first two weeks of Sept. I could still squeeze in depending on how long it takes to get the necessary paperwork from Tesla to register the car.

FWIW.... I emailed OPPD yesterday because I hadn't heard anything on my charger, and I told her that I was taking delivery soon and I was worried I'd miss out on the EV rebate.

Found out it shipped today and she said "don't worry, you won't miss out" Take that for what you will, at least it leaves me hopeful. Sounds like I might take delivery sometime this coming week, my IDA emailed asking my schedule for the week but I've not heard back yet.

I should be getting a check in the next week or so for the $4500. I applied for a second rebate, that is for a second charger, the $500 rebate, yesterday, for a second charger for the other EV. It was much easier. It was a little tricky to hook up (through the app) the second charger, but there is a way to do it (activate the second charger while you reboot the first--you must have two ChargePoint accounts, one for each charger), but I got it done.

They updated again today, and they're down to 11. That's another 7 gone since last Friday. And I know three more people in this group picking up next week. At that rate they'll be gone by then end of the week. I just e-mailed OPPD to see if there's any chance they will extend it past the original 50. The charger rebates are going much slower. Maybe they could convert some of that money to the EV rebates. Fingers crossed! My delivery is September 29, and I still have to wait for paperwork after that and get to the DMV.

Not to mention we have to get our paperwork back from Tesla to register the car first. I'm going to assume I don't get it at this point. It isn't like I based my buying decision on getting it.

This is disheartening.... found out they were mistaken and my chargepoint doesn't ship until first week of oct. Double checked and an Amazon purchased chargepoint isn't valid since they opened up their own store. So.. chargepoint will show up ~ Oct. 5 and car won't be registered until ~Oct 15-20th...

I'm thinking the 4500 might be toast. . .

Oh I hadn't realized they opened the store. I purchased mine in July to be ready so I hope I don't run into trouble because their link went to Amazon at the time. I don't think I'll be getting the $4,500 either though.

I think I just phrased that poorly... If you purchased from Amazon when their link still went there, it's fine. But after they instituted their own store, you have to buy from there apparently.

@uselesslogin I also purchased mine in July when the link went to Amazon. Someone else here said they checked and they would still honor those. I think they just won't honor an Amazon purchase now, since they have set up their own store. If the $4500 is gone, I still plan to get the $500 rebate for the charger. I will fight for that, especially considering I wouldn't have purchased it if it weren't for the rebate.

I would try and work with them, wherever you bought it. Don't assume you are out, but find out if you can. They have been very workable with me, at least, when I called with questions about setting up a second charger for two EVs.
