Summary of California’s Updated Building Codes for EV Infrastructure in new construction (effective 1/1/23)
Hotels, Motels, Apartments, Condos with 20 or more units:
EV Ready: A vehicle space which is provided with a 240V 20A branch circuit; any necessary raceways, to accommodate EV charging, terminating in a receptacle or a charger.

Hotels, Motels, Apartments, Condos with 20 or more units:
- 40% of parking spaces (10% EV Capable, 25% EV Ready, 5% have EVSEs)
- 35% of parking spaces (10% EV Capable, 25% EV Ready)
- If parking facilities are altered and the work requires a building permit, 10% parking spaces added or altered, shall be EV Capable.
