New Study: How Long Do Electric Car Batteries Last?

We get a lot of questions from our community about electric car batteries. That is partly because the cost of battery replacement is so high (more on that later), but it is also due to limited information.

It's not badly done, but I suspect the "researcher" didn't vet her report particularly well. At the very least the "depth of discharge is an issue" statement is well debunked. Nope. There IS a limit by with which LION battery harm can occur, but no BMS on the planet lets that occur. It's absolutely a non-issue. SoC, on the other hand, has been well proven to be an issue, and the implications of high SoC are also well documented in many many ways.

Hopefully a better job is done on EV battery costs. That has the potential to be interesting. I've seen projections that battery cost will tend towards a Moores law" kind of thing (Wrights' law). Here's some examples:
