Nissan To Produce Leaf-Based Electric Sports Car

This could be tempting. Of the options mooted, I'd like to see them go for the Z!

Hmm. It'll zip from standstill to 62 mph (equivalent to the 0 to 100 kilometers per hour that most countries use for timed acceleration) in 6.9 seconds, Nissan says.

That leaves a little too much snooze time for me.

Next, I'd like to know what the people behind this thing were thinking. I mean, why would you spend so much money building a "race" vehicle and then make it markedly slower than the Esflow "sports car" concept you just showed off a couple months ago. Dumb.

I bet what we will see with the Esflow, (if it is ever produced) is that the prototype is very cool, then the production model turns out to be completely different from the concept. Major automakers have been doing this for years, kind of a "bait and switch".

Although this racing Leaf would be fine for support races, it would have been an idea for Nismo to engineer battery swap into it. Also I'm surprised they didn't up the power of the motor.

F1 is about limiting the tech to stop teams creating cars that are too fast, EV racing is about improving the tech & that's real racing. If 2011 is the year that EVs broke out big time then I think 2012 is going to be the year of the Racing EV.
