Yes, it gets wet somewhat in rain and car washes. The tailgate is a disappointment in that it does nothing other than be a tailgate when the competition has been adding capability—some for years. A step and mid-gate would be great.

The tailgate is even worse than that as it was shown on the reveal to have an enclosed ramp. The cyberturd was created because Elon got disenchanted with the toy. The Turd is just a turd.

there must be a design, safety reason, Franz and Lars have a clue, they would have done it if possible
think the RAM has a ladder frame whereas the CT does not by design/efficiency
RAM can have a midgate because its a legacy truck design first, the CT is an EV design first

The turd does not have a midgate because the asshats working for Musk didn't stand up to him when he proposed a leaking rolling door as the cover for the turd's trunk. The cyberturd was built around the rolling door. The turd functions as rolling door carrier that can also carry some people. An all-wheel drive Model Y is a better fit for everyone except those that want to be gawked at.
