Late to reply but the same thing here. And the estimates are really high too. My charger location is 5' up from my electrical panel so no long run required and they still estimate higher than having my 3rd fl bathroom completely rewired. It's just ridiculous. And because it will be outside work in NYC, I better get the proper permit and buildings inspection. That adds to the cost too.
I had solar installed on my roof, and that required all kinds of work. That this one short run will cost about 10% of that entire installation just is crazy. I couldn't get the solar installer to do it though, they are too busy.
