Off-road Assist not accessible, Why

I recently purchased a 2023 model Y LR, after having leased, and loved, a model 3.

On my car, the off-road assist and slip start features are “grayed-out” and not useable.

Why? Is there some secret to unlocking them? What am I doing wrong?

Maybe a dumb question, but the manual says "Note _ Slip Start and Off-Road Assist are not available when you are actively using Autopilot." Were you looking at those options while driving in autopilot?

IIRC, off-road assist cannot be engaged while moving.
stop, select, then proceed.

I've been thinking Alan, maybe I have had some of the autopilot features always on (in the background) like collision avoidance assist. When I answered above I was thinking of cruise control. I'll check it out. Thank you.

No, I tried turning every autopilot feature off and off-road assist is still not available. Back to ground zero, any more ideas, anybody?

Put your foot on the brake. Just guessing maybe.

I don't have a Y but I've had other vehicles and it's typically required to change traction control settings.

How steep of an incline is your driveway? Have you tried enabling it on while on a level ground?

We use Off Road assist every day when the roads are icy and snowy. Yes, it is grayed out until you put your foot on the brake before you put the car in drive. Once on, you can turn it off and on while you drive.
