Own vs Lease?

This was a big question for me. At first, I planned to buy with a very hefty down payment, and finance the rest. That would get me a SR+ on a six year finance. But by leasing with half that amount down, I can lease a LR AWD with FSD for about the same payments. Then three years later, I can do the same thing. I'll be 78 years old when I get the car, so six years after that I'll be 84, if still alive.

I normally run cars to very late in their lives, but I'm now leasing a Tesla for one very simple reason: my employer offers a salary sacrifice scheme for leasing electric vehicles, so the cost to me out of my post-tax earnings is literally less than half what it would be normally. The maths on buying are never going to stack up against that level of discount.
