There are no chips in the lumbar
Chips aren't the only thing there is a shortage of right now. Chances are Tesla's supplier for the lumbar support component is having issues sourcing parts so the supply of modules themselves is limited leaving Tesla with only two options either delay production or eliminate the lumbar support on the passenger side.
By removing the passenger lumbar they essentially double the number of cars they can produce. It really doesn't make sense to cut production in half just because one minor part is missing.
I think it's disingenuous of Tesla to claim it was removed because nobody was using it since that's an obvious lie seeing as other car companies like BMW have also removed the passenger side lumbar support but removing it does make sense.
