How about just placing the Costco dog in the storage bin for a few hours?
Some of us don't favor the Costco dog. But then again, time may be critical - I mean, you may want to sell the M3 say, 5 years down the road and the smell may still be there. (Assuming you didn't forget to remove - not replace - said dog).

I've heard that burnt coffee grounds in a container work well, and might smell better than the hotdog trick.

OK... tried using Phil's Fish Market carry out. (Phil's is known for some pretty good seafood here on the peninsula - especially the Cioppino which won him a throwdown against Bobby Flay). Anyway, 15 minute drive home - it worked and now I have the preferred Phil's vs Costco Dog.
